Musical Evening with Ganesh and Sudeep: 20 November, 2010

'De De Khuda Ke Naam Pe' sang Wazir Mohammed Khan in Alam Ara (1931) giving birth to a phenomenon called the Hindi film song. And over the years, the quintessential Hindi film song has travelled a long way, influencing and being influenced by popular taste. "Bollywood Melodies" a book by Ganesh Anantharaman, traces the evolution of the Hindi film song to its present status as the cultural barometer of the country through an evaluation of the work of over 50 outstanding composers, singers and lyricists from KL Saigal to Sonu Nigam, Naushad to AR Rahman, Sahir Ludhianvi to Javed Akhtar.

Presenting his book to a rapt audience at 'Full Circle', Ganesh interacted musically with Sudeep Swaroop, music composer/ guitarist and his circle of talented musicians in a joyous, free-for-all session on Saturday, 20th Nov 2010 at 7pm.


Red Romances from Pageturn Publisher: 9 December, 2010

The first two titles of Red Romances from Pageturn Publisher was launched at Full Circle@ Chamiers in an interactive evening with actor Abbas and wife and fashion designer, Erum Ali, discussing the nuances of what makes this element tick. Fashion designers Vivek Karunakaran and Shreya Kamalia and Paloma Rao added sugar and spice and of course the sizzle. Love, romance , love-at-first sight made itself known in desi style, as Erum Ali read out excerpts from the books.


“A Million Sitas”: 18 December 2010

“A Million Sitas” , a production of Anita Ratnam, references five iconic women from the Ramayana... their stories live in us even today as we grapple with the values and qualities that made this epic tale flow through the centuries. Anita Ratnam and the creative team showed excerpts from the production and engaged in a lively discussion at Full Circle @ Chamiers on Saturday, December 18th, with Ratna Papa, the renowned Kuchipudi dancer. This was a preview to her latest solo dance theatre work coming up for the 2010 December season, this prelude to the complete work is an attempt to redefine images and attitudes of women through the ages.
